Impact and Transparency Factors for The European Journal of Personality Continue to Grow in 2019

The impact factors (IFs) and transparency statistics for 2019 have recently been released. In this post we briefly highlight some noteworthy developments in the impact of the European Journal of Personality.

Impact

The European Journal of Personality has a 2-year IF of 3.9. Coming from a 2-year IF of 3.3 in 2018, this indicates that the journal increased from having over three times as many citations as it published articles in the two preceding years to having nearly four times as many citations as published articles. This means that the journal maintains its standing among other high impact journals in social and personality psychology publishing, as it has since 2013.

This growth in impact can be seen even more clearly if we consider the 5-year IFs. 5-Year IFs represent the number of citations in the preceding five years, divided by the number of published articles in those years. These IFs are more useful when considering the impact of journals, as they are less to random fluctuations due to – for instance – the publication of a very popular article. For the 5-year Ifs, we see that the European Journal of Personality has increased again from 4.6 in 2018 to 5.2 in 2019. As in 2018, the European Journal of Personality is among the top journals in social and personality psychology publishing in terms of the 5-year Ifs, ranking second to the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

Transparency

In addition to its strong impact in social and personality psychology, in 2019 the European Journal of Personality remains at the forefront of Open Science practices within personality psychology publishing. Following the Transparency and Openness Promotion Guidelines, the European Journal of Personality ranks highest in terms of transparency of all personality journals with a score of 20 (out of a possible 30). Amongst other things, this score takes into account journals’ policy on data and materials transparency, study pre-registration, and replication.
